I am the 1st one to admit that I am hopeless at baking.
I even manage to some how stuff up cake mixes. So often people will say to me, "Oh, I'll give you the recipe, it's DEAD easy!"
And I'll refuse... knowing full well that someones "Dead easy", is another gal's failure.
But I am here to tell you that not ALL of my baking attempts suck.
Meringues!
I freakin' LOVE them! And they are indeed, DEAD EASY to make! No shit!
*please note: yes, they do look like white dog turds, but they taste SO good.
Meringues
2 egg whites at room temperature
2/3 cup (150g) caster sugar
Beat egg whites in a small bowl with mixer, on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar and beat for 10-15 minutes, or until sugar is dissolved and mixture holds it's shape.
Spoon into piping bag(or I use a plastic freezer bag with a tiny hole cut in corner) with medium fluted tube.
Pipe 5cm circles of meringue, about 4cm apart onto baking paper covered tray. Or you can spoon small amounts on to the tray.
Bake in very slow oven 120c(250F) for one hour, or until dry and crisp. Cool on wire rack.
Serve topped with whipped cream and strawberries.
Yummy!!!

ReplyDeleteLove meringues too. Have you tried using them for "Eton Mess" I haven't made it but it is meringues, cream and strawberries and raspberry sauce all mixed together. Yummy
ReplyDeleteCat- Never attempted a pav. Scared.
ReplyDeleteTwo ingredients.... can't go wrong!
Yas, tatty bake is something else I do well. ;o)
LX- It is! The hardest part is separating the egg whites.
And they are ten times cheaper than buying the one's in the supermarket.
Fen- Yr speshal! ;o)
Mynx- Never even heard of that! Will go google right now!
Dead easy and taste good - that's about my speed. Sounds like just the thing for me. :-)
ReplyDeletePav is a big merangue!!!!!! Egg Whites, Caster sugar. The only extra's are a pinch of cream of tartar & a teaspoon each of corn flour & vinegar at the end. The corn flour & cream of tartar I think is to help stablize & the vinegar adds shine...
ReplyDeleteI know what ya mean about 2 ingredients though! :0)
Epic- If only everything else was this easy!
ReplyDeleteCat- I've seen varying recipes for meringues and pav, and they really fart arse around with adding stuff you don't need.
I've seen one that asks you to add a pinch of salt...but nowhere does it say exactly when and where you add it!
One day, I may try the pavlova... maybe. ;o)
LOL the pinch of salt goes in with the egg whites :0) sposed to make em frothier!
ReplyDeletePS i did some food science many moons ago; tis why I know the salt answer :0)
ReplyDelete*makes mental note for next time*
ReplyDeleteI hate meringues, one bit me once. I was at the zoo and I offered a banana to one, he promptly snatched my hand and bit it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Meringue utangs, Monsoons (the're a sort of monkey as well) and the dreaded Rhombus, what is really a sort of snake. Now, yer tortiss is not so dangerous, being a hinsect.
Jack- You are by far, THE funniest bloke I know. *smooch*
