Baxter's Ashes...

July 1994.

We weren't looking for a dog. We were living in a one bedroom granny flat owned by a Czechoslovakian who had been a family friend for a number of years. We lived opposite the house where I was an unruly teen in Parkside.

George had told us in no uncertain terms, that we were NOT to have a cat. He detested cats. But we were allowed a rabbit, or a dog.
We had just moved from a block of units, and had not long lost our beloved cat, Moraghy. She had been hit by a car and did not survive.
We so dearly wanted another cat. But George was dead against it.

We were out window shopping one day at Castle Plaza shopping centre. We weren't looking for anything in particular.
We happened past the local pet shop, and stood gazing at a gaggle of pups together in a glass display.
There was two or three black and tan puppies, and one little brown one. The little brown one was full on. Seemed like he was the boss. His brothers and sisters were waggly tailed and happy little chaps, but this little guy seemed intent on bossing them around.

We wandered off, but for some reason, we were drawn back to the pet shop, and we both seemed to have the same thing on our mind.
That little rascal puppy.

We asked the pet store guy, "How much is that doggy in the window?!" And what breed etc, etc.
"$70. And we think they are Wire haired terrier crossed with Boxer."

We had very little money back in those days. And $70 to us was quite a lot of money.
But I remember distinctly going to the wall and withdrawing that money like our life depended on it, and rushing back to the pet shop to buy that little brown pup.

I still have the pet shop docket from when we bought him... heh.

We were driving down Winston Avenue on our way home. We decided to call him Winston.
While driving home, I remember holding him in my arms stroking his back, and wondering what all those little grainy things were in his fur?
FLEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And LOTS of them!

We got home, and the very first thing I did was wash that little bugger in the old laundry trough with Malawash.
Blow drying him with a hair dryer, he howled and howled. :o(
We stuck a little pyrethrin flea collar on him, and wormed him, and gave him a treat out on the back lawn- an orange.

I will NEVER forget this. And our first introduction to how BAXTER would behave for the rest of his life to food!

Yes, we renamed him Baxter. And it suited him. We had seen a French movie about a bull terrier called, Baxter.

Baxter was barely bigger than this orange. We were out there with him, taking photos and generally squeeing at his general cuteness.
But as soon as we tried to get near him, he started this low growl. Then, as we approached more, he started to bark and snarl with his teeth showing.
OMG!!!!! All the while, trying to eat this massive orange.

Other than this though, he was a simply beautiful boy. He never had an evil bone in his body.
A lot of times through his life, people would mistake his growls as aggression, but he never attacked anyone.
He was vocal. Not physical. A bit like me, really.

Our landlord, George, totally adored Baxter. He was his surrogate Grandfather.
When were weren't around, George would sneak Baxter into his place, and feed him cooked chicken and rice with vegetables.
No wonder he wouldn't eat what we gave him!

George was continually berating us about how we 'brought' Baxter up. How we fed him, how we trained him, how we groomed him.
We were fighting a losing battle trying to reason with George, NOT to feed him. He would be so sneaky about it.

By November 1994, we had moved up to Jamestown. It was a relief to get away from the meddling, yet kind George.
Baxter now had two new Grandparents, my Mum and Dad, and boy oh boy, did he get spoiled like a Grandkid should!

Going back to his growing up period- when he was still very young(he was only 7 weeks old when we brought him home), we started getting him used to being on a collar and chain early.
He hated it at first. He would sit there and yank his head around, pull the opposite way, and howl.
It took him a little while, but he soon got the hang of walking with us on a lead.
We lived right next to the Parklands, on Greenhill Road.
So we would walk him several times a day in the park.
On one of the very first times we took him to the park, we learnt of another of his idiosyncrasies.

We thought we'd play a game with him. Chasey.
Well, he did NOT like that.
We had waited for him to be distracted by a new smell or something, then took off in the opposite direction. As soon as the poor little bugger worked out we had gone, he ran as fast as his little legs could carry him, howling and yipping as though his poor heart would break.
Even when he caught up with us, and we were still jogging, he wouldn't stop barking... he practically jumped at us and tried to bite at our pants.

He would do this to anyone who tried to run. We had to let any kids who visited us, NOT to run, as he would chase them down. Scary for a kid, but as I said earlier, he wasn't nasty, he just appeared that way with his vocal barking.

Baxter suffered from separation anxiety. We were with him pretty much all the time in his very early life.
So anytime we were gone, his behaviour was that of a spoilt child.
We would come home to plants pulled up, holes dug everywhere and anywhere, and general mess.
As far as we know, he never howled or barked while we were gone. But later on in life, he did howl if I were to go horse riding without him.

Not long after we had moved to Jamestown, and he was about 6 months old, he took off one day following a pretty bitch who was being walked by her owners past our house.
We called and called and called him, finally managing to catch up to the people(you think they would've stopped).
Our house had no fence, so we were forced to put Baxter on a long chain while we were out. I hated having to do this, but it was only temporary, as we were going to be moving again soon into a permanent house.
But we decided that we were going to have to have him desexed. We didn't want him wandering off again.

I loved our new home. And Baxter did too.
We went on endless "Tat tats"(walks), he was fit as a fiddle. He loved the big green grassy oval up at the show grounds. As far as he was concerned, that was HIS oval!

He hated it if there were other dogs on there.
He loved water. Loved swimming.
He loved nothing better than to go riding with me. He was a very fast learner. And he soon learned not to walk on the road, but to keep on the dirt.
"Off the road!" And he moved.
He was extremely intelligent. He knew many, many commands and I swear that dog knew exactly what we were saying in everyday conversations.

We came to the conclusion that he definitely didn't have any Boxer in him. My brother had Boxers, and there was no way in hell that Baxter was part Boxer.
We think the Wire haired terrier bit was correct, but we feel that he was more Labrador than Boxer. Especially when he was clipped.

Baxter was very much my dog.
While I have always been a cat person, and Magnaboy a dog person, when Bax came into our lives, he was our be all and end all.
He loved Mboy to bits. But it was me he stuck to like glue.
If I wasn't around, he would sulk.

In 1997 Mboy secured a full time job in Adelaide at Mitsubishi Motors.
I was none to pleased that we had to move and leave our country lifestyle. Had to leave behind our house, our garden and all the work we'd done.
Even less happy that I had to leave behind my parents and friends.
I also had to leave my horses. I had to return Bella, my free lease horse to my friend. I couldn't afford to keep a horse in town.
Baxter had pretty much grown up a country dog. No walking on leashes. Days spent running around in a paddock. Freedom to do as he pleased... that all changed.

I can remember vividly his 'depression' when we moved to Adelaide.
He was lost. He missed the horses and he missed my parents. He and I both.
I think we both had a mini break down.

In 1999, lady luck shone on us. And we were offered a house in the town we live in now.... a property through family friends. Little or no rent. It had enough room for a horse. It was amongst their vineyard. It meant financial security, and we would be back in a rural setting.
We couldn't wait!

Baxter loved it. As did we all.
My friend found me a horse... a rescued Standardbred who was on her way to the dog meat factory. She would set me on a course for forever loving the breed.
Baxter and her were best mates. He shared her food. They would walk together in the paddock.
He would sometimes lay down next to her when she was laying down.
He'd eat grass, when she ate grass!
He'd play chasey with her, but sometimes, Che-Dé would get a bit too excited, and he'd end up on the wrong end of a hoof.

Baxter had a love/hate relationship with our cat, Smokey.
We got her up in Jamestown from the vets. "SHE" was supposed to be a "HE".
What kind of vet can't even sex a kitten?!
She loved him to bits. Followed him everywhere, and tried, unsuccessfully to wash him on many occasions.
He would put up with her laying next to him by the fire. But if she attempted to snuggle up to him, he'd get up and look at her in disgust.

He loved to chase her. And she learnt early on NOT to run.
The only time she would run, was if she was in a 'mood' to play. Usually early mornings.
And she knew that if she ran under the bed, he couldn't get to her. And she'd pull herself along under the bed with her claws. Pissing him off, and making him want to get to her even more.

We'd all go for walks amongst the vines.
Me, Mboy, Baxter, Smokey and Che-Dé. Of course, we couldn't go too far, as Smokey would get puffed easily. We'd have to wait for her... Baxter would get impatient.
Usually by the end of the walk, when she knew we were close to home, she'd get her second wind and run home, allowing Baxter to chase her, only she knew he couldn't get back in because the gate would be closed!

2005 was our Annus Horribilus.
Mboy and I separated. I had to give Che-Dé away as I couldn't afford to keep her. I had a mental meltdown and ended up in hospital. My back gave way and I was in hospital in traction... and then, we found out that Baxter had cancer.
To top off the year, after me and Mboy sorted our shit and got back together, we were informed we'd have to move out of our house. The owners were feeling the effects of the global grape crisis, and had to sell a lot of their assets.

Baxter had been quite ill and after many vet visits, we were told that there was nothing more we could do for him.
They removed the bone tumor on his side, and told us to take him home, and make the most of the possibly 18 months we had left with him.

I look through all the veterinarian receipts, and we spent thousands and thousands of dollars on him.
And I would do it all again in a heart beat. He was our baby.
It killed us we couldn't do more for him. We could prolong his life by a matter of months, but in the end, who were we really helping? He was in pain. He was ready to go.
It was us who weren't ready to say goodbye.

3rd March, 2006- It was the day we had been dreading.
Baxter was throwing up again. He was urinating blood. He was in deep distress.
I rang the Vets. They said there was nothing more that they could do for him, other than give him pain relief. Or, to put him out of his misery.
It was up to us.

That day will be burnt into my memory for the rest of my life.
And as I write this now, I cannot stop the tears.
It's been 6 long years, but it still hurts. It is still fresh.
I still to this day regret so much.... I know it was for the best. I am just selfish. I wished he could still be here.

In a way, he still is. His memories. The happy times. He changed our lives.
He brightened my day, when there was nothing for me to live for. He saved my life on numerous occasions....

Baxter's ashes take pride of place in our home. He is always with us. He will NOT be packed away in a box when we pack things to move. He will be held in my arms, like the day when we first brought him home.

I didn't even realize when I took them, that he owned it.
It was after while talking to him while we were at the McLaren Vale Harvest Festival that he said, "Do you recognize the old Studebaker truck over there?"

It had sat for many years in a shed on the property we used to rent, gathering dust.
And no, I most certainly did not recognize it!

Getting Back To Wine Country...

The news that I have been waiting to tell y'all......

We are moving!

After almost 4 years here, it's time to move on to better pastures.

We move at the end of March. We'll be in our new place for my birthday. What a great prezzie.

The views are to die for. Peace & serenity. No immediate neighbours. We can have pets again. For the 1st time in my life, I am going to have a dishwasher! :o)))))

We cannot wait.

Cookin' With Ute... Meringues

I am the 1st one to admit that I am hopeless at baking.
I even manage to some how stuff up cake mixes. So often people will say to me, "Oh, I'll give you the recipe, it's DEAD easy!"
And I'll refuse... knowing full well that someones "Dead easy", is another gal's failure.

But I am here to tell you that not ALL of my baking attempts suck.

Meringues!

I freakin' LOVE them! And they are indeed, DEAD EASY to make! No shit!

*please note: yes, they do look like white dog turds, but they taste SO good.

Meringues

2 egg whites at room temperature
2/3 cup (150g) caster sugar

Beat egg whites in a small bowl with mixer, on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar and beat for 10-15 minutes, or until sugar is dissolved and mixture holds it's shape.

Spoon into piping bag(or I use a plastic freezer bag with a tiny hole cut in corner) with medium fluted tube.
Pipe 5cm circles of meringue, about 4cm apart onto baking paper covered tray. Or you can spoon small amounts on to the tray.

Bake in very slow oven 120c(250F) for one hour, or until dry and crisp. Cool on wire rack.

Serve topped with whipped cream and strawberries.

Yummy!!!

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!

Sorry I've been absent. I just haven't really had much to say. My mind is mush lately.

Summer has arrived. So not happy about that. I am not a Summer person. I am officially counting down the months/weeks til it's Autumn.
So far we've not had many hot days. But next week is supposed to be getting quite warm. Ew.

Magnaboy was cleared just the other week to go back to the CFS(Country Fire Service). He hasn't been able to go on any call outs since his finger injury, and had to be cleared by a doctor.
Within two days of being cleared, they had a pretty serious bushfire in Blewitt Springs, and more than 100 fire fighters were called up, including fire bombing planes.

Being the 2nd Lt for Blewitt Springs, and the OHSW he's needed there, and they were more than happy for him to get back in to the swing of things.

Finally got our vacuum cleaner back Tuesday. Five fucking weeks it took them. FIVE WEEKS!
What they did, I have no idea... it looks like all they've done is replace the power cord.

It is not working properly. It isn't sucking as it should, and it sounds.... odd.
While I was vacuuming the bathroom, it splattered oil over the tiles. So not fucking happy.
I am not taking it all the way back there(hour drive away in the hills), especially seeing they took so long to do God knows what to it.

I'll just save my pennies and buy something that fucking does the job how it should be done.
In the meantime, Mboy is getting pissed off with all my long hair that is falling out(stress?) and he's finding it in his socks and pretty much everything.
Can't help that... or would he prefer I shave all my hair off?

Our toilet has decided to start playing up. And yeah... being the end of the week, you try getting the owners to get a plumber out!
Looks like Monday arvo is the earliest.
Splashy water all over the back wall, and running behind the toilet, and it's making an awful noise. GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I'd treat myself to getting my nails done this week. You know, acrylic french ones?
I've not had them done before...and seeing as though through stress etc I'd nibbled them all off, I thought this would give them a chance to grow again.

Well, am not exactly happy with the look. I thought they'd look more or less real.
They look FUCKED!
I paid $60 for something I could have done shitty myself. :o/
Money well spent.... NOT.

Speaking of $.
There will be no more splashing out on such extravagances.
Mboy found out he's got 3.5 weeks off over the Christmas period. Without pay.
The whole plant closes down.
He's only casual, so he doesn't get sick leave or holiday pay.
Needless to say, there will be no Christmas prezzies this year.

What else..... Hmmmmmm.
Oh, I have yet another ear infection. It's not as bad as some of the other one's I've had this year, but enough to make me feel crook, ya know?

So I've been on two courses of antibiotics, and fingers crossed it will piss the hell off.
I rang the ENT clinic at Flinders just yesterday, as I was due another follow up appointment with the ENT doctor, but as yet hadn't received any appointment, and I knew it was supposed to be this month.
Was told he had cancelled all his December clinics. Oh, good oh! Nice to inform us, hey.
Apparently I will be seeing him sometime in January.
I am SO pushing for him to whip out my adenoids. As far as I can tell, this will sort out the constant infections.

I just woke up from a really nice nanna nap. Mboy and I had a lovely Brunch with my bro, Wolfie and his lovely wife, Louise here in the Vale.
Organic bacon, poached free range eggs on rye bread toasted, BEAUTIFUL mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, hash brown and chipolata sausages! OMG!
So you can see why I was so sleepy, after a awesome meal like that. :o)

Cookin' With Ute...

A Christmas Cake Recipe

1. Sample the Johnnie Walker to check quality.

2. Take a large bowl, check the whisky again. To be sure it is the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.

3. Repeat.

4. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.

5. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

6. Make sure the whisky is still OK. Try another cup.

7. Turn off the mixerer.

8. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.

9. Mix on the turner.

10. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver.

11. Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity.

12. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who giveshz a shit.

13. Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

14. Add one table.

15. Add a spoon of sugar, or something. Whatever you can find.

16. Greash the oven and piss in the fridge.

17. Turn the cake tin 350 defrees.

18. Don't forget to beat off the turner.

19. Throw the bowl out of the f**king window.

20. Check the whisky again and go to bed.

No. Usually I let them know how much I love memes! I'm a meme freak!

Erm, I have no idea. The same as usual I would expect.

I never had a closet. But thought there were ghosts under my bed.
Sheets pulled high up over my head saved me. Many a time.

I didn't graduate. I left when I was 14. And I have never regretted it.
Do regret losing my year book though. :o/

Nope. I have enough with my own mental health problems.

Not dying. But the way in which I may die, yes. I have seen some awful ways to die, and I just hope that I go in my sleep.

I don't believe in heaven or hell.
I do believe that there is more to life than just this though. Perhaps we are reincarnated. I'd like to think that.

Cat. I was returning some books that she had kindly lent to us, and I wrote a small thank you note to go along with it. :o)

Sure. It's my biggest downfall.

Unfortunately, I get most of the genetic fuck ups from the Old girl's side.

Cute Critter Of The Week!

Our friendly Magpie, "Maggie", was carrying on like a pork chop this afternoon. Along with the rest of her family.

The reason?

Cute little Koala up the gum trees next to our carport. >.<

When I say 'little', it's not that small. About the size of a medium dog.

The magpies don't like Koala's. I'm not even sure why to be honest. It's not as if they're gonna eat them.

He or she has been up and down the five or six trees this afternoon, chewing on the gum leaves.
And snoozing in between feeds.

1. Is there someone in your life you know you’d be better off without?

There are a couple of people in my life that I know I would be a lot better off without.
It's not as easy as it sounds to just remove someone.

Not directly to my face. Well, actually, yeah, I have done...but that was by a medical professional.
They also criticized my cigarette habit. And we all know how well that works with me.
If people are in my life, and they want to be in my life, then they just have to accept me for who I am. Take the good with the bad.
And if you are a superficial cunt, and find being overweight a problem, then perhaps you and I shouldn't be friends.

I'm trying to think who the last person was that I called?
Er, no... definitely not.
That would've been the receptionist at the vacuum repair place to enquire what is going on with our vacuum.

Oh hell... I dunno?
If I'm in the right mood, and the vacuum is actually working, I sometimes put the stereo on and dance while cleaning.

The majority of the time, yes.
I hate feeling like I may have disappointed someone/anyone.
But at the same time, if something has riled me, then I can be a complete bitch.
It's only after I have calmed down that I see how I could perhaps have approached it in a more sensible manner.

6. If you have a hang nail, do you pull it or clip it?

Depends on where I am. If I am not at home, and it's pissing me off, I'll chew it off.
Pulling it will only make it sore.

Dark, shadowy figures from my past who did me wrong.

Today. The rubbish bin stank so rank. And not of the usual rubbishy smell.
Mboy had put a tissue in there after using some deep heat, and every time I opened it, out would waft this gross smell. A mix of deep heat and rubbish. :oS

I hardly ever eat cereal.
I love hot milk and Weetbix. With loads of sugar! But it's very rare that I have it.

No Tuesday Ute's today.... having a break, seeing there is very little interest in my last couple of posts. Not one comment on the video link I provided.

Having some challenging marital issues at home lately. It all came to a head Saturday.
Lots of tears were shed. A lot of cussing. Apologies. Promises.
Heard it all before. And will no doubt hear it again.

Not linked, but also on Saturday, the vacuum cleaner blew up and caught on fire.
Just over a year old, and barely used... I hate the fucking thing, hence it not being used.
It kept on stopping and starting, and then just blew the fuck up.
Flames coming out from where the cord goes into the actual cleaner. Cool.
It is currently being, "Assessed" to see whether it can be fixed. Here's hoping it can't, and I can just get my $$$ back and buy something that actually works.

Am hoping to catch up with yet another old primary school friend on Monday.
She now lives in Canada with her Canadian husband, and little girl.
She is over here visiting with relatives up in my old home town of Laura.
There's a few of us hoping to catch up for maybe a meal. Can't wait!

I haven't had much to really blog about. Well, nothing I can speak of. Yet.

But here are a few random things:

Our hot water system died yesterday arvo. It played up over the LWE, and then mysteriously decided to work again. But yesterday it died good and proper, and today we had a brand spanking new one installed by our landlord. We wont have hot water until tomorrow...hopefully.

We have 3 new baby budgies in the breeding aviary. Mumma budgie is a proud girl. She usually only breeds 1 or 2. They are nearing the time that they will come out of the nesting box, and none too soon, as the weather is starting to get warmer, and it's a freakin' hot box in that aviary. So as soon as they are able to fly, I am returning all 5 to the big aviary.

We also have a new baby magpie! "Maggie" only reared the one this year.... she has in the past 3 years had up to 4, but only the one this time. It's just left the nest, and is flying around haphazardly. Cutie.

I have yet another fucking ear infection. I have had this bad/stiff neck the past week, and I wasn't too sure if it was that which was making my ear ache. But just to be sure, I thought it best to go see the Doc. Yup.... "Oh, yes...indeed you do have an ear infection." So it's onto 2 courses of antibiotics, and if that fails(which we all know it probably will), I'm going to have to try and get in to see the ENT at Flinders.

I've been feeling real crook lately. Not just with the ear thing...that's only recent. And the doc was surprised I had an ear infection, seeing I've not had a cold... it's stress. SO much stress. I can't begin to tell you why/what/how. It's a shit load of things, all at once. That'll do it. My face looks like some crack whore... full of nasty sores and blind pimples, and my once long finger nails are no more. Yup, after over five years of not biting them, I chewed those fuckers right off. :o/

Sometimes I wish I had another private blog. One where I could only let those I want to read my shit read it.... without any incriminating feedback. But it's too fucking hard. It's days/weeks like this, that I should get my old diary out of my knickers draw, and start to lay my shit bare. But...well, ya know.

Books- I read and finished Kasey Chambers book within a few days. It's fabulous! I highly recommend it if you're a fan. I'm currently reading a book that von LX recommended to me, it's an Autobiography about Marilyn Monroe and it's brilliant!

I can't think of anything else.... I know, highly exciting!

Goodbye, Facebook... It's Been Fun...

I deleted my Facebook account. And I feel lost, confused, sad, emotional.

But I was sick and tired of feeling like my privacy was under attack. And tonight was the last straw. So yeah... after painstakingly deleting as many personal photos as possible(for some reason, any photo album that had over 200 photos, I was unable to delete), and all of my profile photos, I shut it down. :o(

I have always loved my Facebook. But this past week, with all their new implementations and their shitty privacy settings being changed, so that my profile, and many others were open to anyone pretty much being able to look at them, that was the last straw.

I spent over 4+ hours the other day, transferring ALL my photos over to Google+, and thankfully, quite a lot of loved one's and friends have migrated too.
It appears I am not the only one who has had enough of Mark Zuckerberg's handling of Facebook.

So... unless Facebook goes back to their previous system(highly doubtful) and changes their privacy settings back with it, I can't see me going back. No matter how much I will miss it, and my friends who will probably not migrate to G+.

The only other way to go back, is to open up a fake profile as Utegirl. And just not have anything on there that will give me grief privacy wise. Meh.

Why FB felt that they have to continually change things every few months is beyond me.
But to completely fuck up their privacy settings is just plain wrong.

I wonder how many people will be leaving? Will you stay?

Another Tuesday Utes post. This one was submitted by my brother... Tuesday Utes V and received 175 page hits.
Am not surprised by this one. Have seen a few visits in my Sitemeter thingy with the search words being, "CULT". So far over 150 page views.
Number six is funny... The Volvo Ute?! 110 page views.

Ear Update

An update from This entry.

Saw the ENT specialist again today. I was getting the results(if any) from the CT scan which I had a couple of weeks back on my sinus'.

After waiting for over an hour past my appointment time, I was called in to see Dr NoBedside Manners.

He seemed to forget that he'd already told me of my hearing test results the last time I saw him. Ah well, I'll humour him, and let him ramble on about that which I already know.

I then asked, "So what did the CT scan results say?"

"We'll get to them in a minute... oh, alright, we'll have a look at them now then."

He showed me on his computer, and I understood pretty much all that he was telling me... that there is nothing really out of the ordinary, except a couple of things.

One is: I have a "bony" growth in my left nasal passage. I could see it. It was quite impressive.
But he wasn't really concerned with it, and stated that quite a few people have these, and it never causes them any grief.

The other thing: My Eustachian tubes are down right fucking TINY!
Well, like I already knew that anyway...but he clarified it for me.

The other thing: My adenoids are quite large? And may need to be removed at a later time.

So... nothing really out of the ordinary. Nothing to justify my constant infections, or blocked ears.
Although when pressed as to my constant infections, he just said that due to the small eustachian tubes, it obviously blocks up and cannot clear.

Before leaving, he looked at my ears via a microscope thingy, and he said they are all clear.
I told him that since seeing him, my GP has recommended that I use Rhinocort spray each night before bed, which has improved my ears/nose/sinus immensely.

He was in agreeance, and said that I should keep up with it, and that it is safe to use long term. Reckons that I may even hit the nail on the head with future ear infections if I keep on using it. *dances!*

Anywaaaaaaaaaaaay........ before he let me go, he said, "I just want to have a look at the back of your nose."
"Have you ever had this done before?"
ME(worried)- "Erm, no..."
"Well, I'm going to spray this stuff up your nose, and it's not very pleasant. Think of the worst stuff that the Victorians brew, and this is ten times as bad."

*Crickets*

Well, he wasn't fucking wrong. OMFG. This shit was AWFUL! *Gags*

It basically numbed my nose, throat, tongue, lips and teeth. Fun.

Then he stuck this big long dooflicky thingy up my nostrils, and down to wherever the fuck it went.
"Hmmmm.....yes, yes.... those Adenoids are quite large. Oh, and yes....hhmmmm, a bit of thickening there I see..."
ME- *GAGS....eye's water....*

He wants to see me in 3 months time. And then possibly another three months. He wants to see me as things progress, as in... if I end up with another cold or infection, he can then see what is going on. But as he said, it's highly unlikely I will have any problems this time of the year.

He reiterated that Grommets are NOT in my best interest, as he thinks they will do more harm than good.
But later on, if problems persist, I may need to have the Adenoids removed. He said there's nothing he can do for my tiny Eustachian tubes.

So that's that. No nasty tumors or anything like that. Yes, I did worry it could be that. Go me. ;o)

Long time readers would know of the demise of my original blog. And how utterly fucking devo I was.

Well, about a week ago, I had this visitor here... to this blog, and their entry came from here, only there was an extra address in the URL, which contained my old blog's URL.

Well fuck me sideways with a chainsaw...if I didn't find some of my old blog entries! Holy fuck!!!!

I did some more digging, and actually found that my blog is somehow miraculously alive.
Unfortunately, there are only a few snippets there, and there is no way of me gaining any access. I've tried. Oh believe me I've tried.

I've also tried to contact Blogger, but you know how it is.... Blogger is no longer available to contact, and all you can do now is write up a request/question on their forums. Which I did.
I've still not heard from them.

So... what did I do?
I subscribed to my old blog, and lo and behold tonight, it showed up in my reader. With over 60 posts from the past!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what I'm going to do now, is try and put them on here, and archive them...if I can figure out how to do it.
I was hoping that it would go back as far as 2005/2006 from when I started it..but there are only a few entries from then.
Most of them are from 2008.

I'm an Aussie. Well, Duh!
I love animals, and hate any kind of animal cruelty. I cannot bear to watch anything that shows animals suffering.
I'm a Facebook addict. Mmmmmhhhhmmmm, But lately I've gotten a bit sick of all the changes over there.
I'm a stickler for being on time. I hate being late, or people who are constantly late.
I'm a bit of a clean freak. Germaphobe. Like an orderly house, with everything in it's place, and woe be fucking tide if you move my shit.
I detest slow arse drivers who sit in the right hand lane. For those of you Overseas, our right hand lane is the opposite of your left hand lane...obviously.

Dom- A blog about a girl and her love of Standardbreds. Initially I came across her blog when I had seen a video of her dog, Herbie, and her horse, Ozzy on Youtube. I LOVE her blog! She's a very talented photographer, and I get lost in amazing photos.

XL/LX- How could I not include my fave blogger?! He's not only a good mate, and someone I hold very close to my heart, but he is such a clever man with his blog posts. A good egg, and a funny bugger too. ;o)

Lauren- Another horsey blog that I stumbled across. Can't recall where.... it may have actually been on Dom's blog.

Just an update for those interested about what's going on with my chronic ear problems.

Today I finally had the appointment with the ENT specialist at Flinders Medical Centre.
Well, I came away not really knowing much more than when I went in.

It seems he is just as miffed about my condition as I am. Great, huh?

For a start, he didn't have the nicest of bedside manners. Was kind of a grumpy, thinks-he-knows-it-all kind of person, and treated me and others with very little respect.

When he said to me, "What makes you think you've had constant ear infections?" I glared at him, and said, "Because my Doctors told me, and the fact they hurt. And I was taking numerous courses of antibiotics."

"What makes you think you have fluid behind your eardrum?"
"Because my doctor told me so.... and I'm deaf in that ear."

What a wanker. Seriously.

Anyway. After him realizing I wasn't a push over, he started to be a bit nicer.

He looked in my ears, nose, throat. Looked at my voice box, applied pressure on my jaw and did all sorts of stuff.

He said there is no fluid at the moment behind my ear drum that would explain the blockage/deafness and pain. He was miffed.
All the other things he looked at were fine.
He asked whether I was a smoker.
Yes.
He did say that my symptoms and the fact I smoke were conclusive to throat cancer..... BUT, there were no signs. He said that in fact, for a smoker, my throat and voice box all look very healthy. As do my eardrums. WTF?

So he wanted me to have a hearing and pressure test.
Which I did.

Now according to these tests, it appears there is some kind of blockage or fluid.
My left ear is below the normal capacity for hearing, pointing to some deafness...not a lot, but it's there.

Soooooo.... because he can't really work out what is going on, he wants me to have another CT scan, but on my sinus'.

Then we'll go from there.

He doesn't think that Grommets will be of any use to me. He thinks they will do more harm than good. But he hasn't ruled them out.
He's just saying, at this stage, my eardrums look in good health, and to make a hole in there, and put grommets in, could make my problems worse.

He can't understand why I have pain. And can't explain why the fuck I am constantly getting infections.
So yeah.... as I said, I'm no better informed than I was when I first went in.

So my CT scan is for later this month, and then Flinders will send me another appointment time to see this 'specialist' again after that.

In the meantime, I just have to put up with muffled and blocked ears and hope to hell I don't get another ear infection.

But hey, at least I finally got to see someone! :o)

Life is hectic and stressful atm, and I am finding it hard to concentrate on writing, or reading, or anything.

Dear Mr and Mrs *****

Thank you for your letters of 25 May 2011 and 29 June 2011 to Hon John Hill MP, Minister for Health, about Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) and neurosurgery appointments at the Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) for your daughter, Ms Kelsey Wallis.

Minister Hill asked the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network Inc, which is responsible for the FMC, to investigate the matter. I am advised as follows:

The demand for ENT services at FMC is very high. This has resulted in longer waiting times for patients that are assessed as having a non-urgent condition, with priority being given to more urgent referrals.

The referral for Ms Wallis was received on 28 April 2009 and was triaged as category 2 (non urgent). An acknowledgement letter was sent to Ms Wallis and her general practitioner on 8 May 2009. An audit of all patients on the waiting list is undertaken to identify if the patient still requires an appointment. An audit letter was sent to Ms Wallis on 15 November 2010 and the response indicated that Ms Wallis still wanted to be seen.

Patients are advised that if their condition changes then they should return to their general practitioner for assessment and if appropriate, additional information can be provided to the clinic.

A second referral, addressed to Dr ******, ENT Consultant was received on 6 June 2011. The referral was reviewed and Ms Wallis was triaged as Category 1. An ENT appointment has been arranged for 2 August 2011 with Dr ********, ENT Consultant.

FMC apologise for the delay in being able to provide this appointment. The ENT Clinic is committed to improving services and has been working over the past 12 months to address many of the issues.

FMC trusts that the provision of the appointment will provide some relief to Ms Wallis and her parents.

I understand that Ms ******* C*****, Ministerial Liaison Officer to the Minister for Health contacted you on 1 July 2011 to advise that your daughter’s ENT appointment has been scheduled for 2 August 2011 and that due to the waiting list for non-urgent neurosurgical consultations, a letter was sent to Ms Wallis’ general practitioner in April 2010 suggesting alternative management.

I trust that the above information alleviates any concerns you may have regarding this issue.

Caught up with mates who I went to primary school with today down at Glenelg. One mate I hadn't seen in about 28 years!
Wow.... that just makes me sound old!

We treated ourselves to pedicures(I've never had one before... do them myself, but I've never had someone pamper me! SOOOOOO gonna do that again!), had a late lunch at Mama Carmela Cafe, then we spoiled ourselves with some coffee and chocolates at Bracegirdles.

The few hours went so fast. I really wish we'd had more time. One of my friends lives in Melbourne, and she is only here for a while. Was so great to meet up again.

Being back together in our little group, it was like we'd never been apart.... I love my mates. :o)

Some good news for a change!

I've finally got an appointment with the ENT specialist at Flinders Medical Centre! *happy face*

And I have to say, it's all thanks to my Mum.

She has written two scathing emails to the Health Ministers office, asking for them to investigate why on earth it's been over two years that I've been waiting to just see someone.

I think that, and my GP sending yet another referral Tuesday(plus copies of the previous referrals) to Flinders that may have helped.

My parents rang me this morning to say they had a phone call from the Health Minister's office. And that I now have an appointment on the 2nd of August.
I just have to wait for the official letter to arrive, to let me know where and when exactly this is.

So here's hoping this long and debilitating ear problem can be sorted once and for all, hey?

I see my GP next Tuesday(I am still on antibiotics- infection hasn't gone away), so I am sure he will be pleased to know that something finally is happening.

It's all good peoples! Aaaaaallll goooooood. :oD

I want to make an apology...

To all my bloggy mates, and Facebook friends... for being a total fucking misery guts over the past several weeks.

I really didn't realize what an utter fuckwit I've been. And I know that I hate reading depressing status updates all the time, so you guys must be completely over it. So forgive me for being so morose.... it is gonna stop. RIGHT NOW! M'kay?

I am grateful/take pleasure for many things. So lets make a listy list, shall we?

I am very fortunate to have a loving husband, who has been with me through thick and thin, for over 20 years. It's never been perfect, but hey, who's life is?! He loves me. For that, I am forever blessed.
I have great mates. Blog mates, FB mates, and mates in "real life" who accept me for who I am. Sometimes I take it for granted that there is this little community around me, who care and are concerned for me.... I DO appreciate you all. I love you guys.
I have no debts. Nuffink! Nada.... SFA! Other than the usual monetary outlays we all have, like rent, car upkeep and utilities, we are pretty damn lucky to be debt free. Yay! :o))
My brain. Yup.... I am thankful for my grey matter. I am not by any means a smart arse, but I would like to think that I have some intelligence. And I have all my faculties. I can string together a sentence and not sound like a complete nong. Although at times I do get tongue tied if nervous.
I may have some health issues, but mostly, I am grateful for my otherwise good health. I am not saying I am the healthiest person out there, but for a fatty, I can still walk a good distance and do some pretty wicked shit in the bedroom without stopping to check my pulse. :o)
I am grateful for the memories I have of Baxter. The other day a friend on Facebook put up a photo of her Irish Wolfhound eating her horses hard feed.... instantly I was taken back to how Baxter would literally dribble a massive puddle, whilst I made up Ché-De's hard feed. He would go fuckin' nuts! He LOVED molasses! I have photos of him standing along side Ché-De eating what she dropped, with a pile of horse feed on his back! HAHAHAHA! Love it.
I take great pride that people see me as, "The clean house" lady. Sure, I know that not so long ago, it was more of a OCD problem, but now it's not. I still keep a clean house. It may occasionally be dusty, but it's not filthy or cluttered. I love how when our Real Estate agent comes for the quarterly inspections, she always commends me on a beautifully kept house. It's a great feeling.
There are probably many more things that I am very grateful for...but for now, I can't think of too many more. They are insignificant things to you, but important to me. Like our "pet" magpie that we feed daily. She has been here since we have, and has raised four clutches of offspring. Or the Westringia Fruticosa that we have watched grow from a withering mess, into a really healthy bush. Little things.

We all have our issues... but I guess once in a while we should take stock of the things that make us happy.

Depress Blogging

Haven't been feeling myself lately. Not even spending half the time I normally do on Facebook. And you know I'm not well when I'm not on there 24/7.

Have been Über depressed. My appetite has decreased(not a bad thing), and I've been feeling the cold... which normally for me doesn't worry me.

I'm sick. And being sick with these constant ear infections is taking it's toll. Plus, I'm very fearful of what may happen if I don't get this seen to. Loss of hearing completely, or worse.

It's been a month now since my 1st ear infection for the year, and here I am today, with yet another visit to the doctors and an armful of more antibiotics and sudafed.
Last Friday my left ear decided to block, and it's been blocked ever since.
I had to go to a late night doctors surgery to get some antibiotics, 'cos I couldn't handle going the long weekend in pain and discomfort.
Unfortunately, it hasn't helped.

I went to see my normal GP Tuesday, and he said that there seems to be a cyst on the ear drum. Oh, joy.
Told me to use warm olive oil three times daily to try and draw out the fluid behind the ear drum, and see how that goes.

Well, it did nothing, and I actually had worse hearing.

Today I saw another GP at my practice, and he said he couldn't see any cyst, so either the olive oil did it's job, or my GP is seeing things.
He said the infection is still there though, so I am back on another course of stronger antibiotics.
They do not agree with me..but hey, better than the alternative.

I've been reading up on the internet about this Bilateral Mastoid disease, and it's freaking me out.
Long term, the prognosis isn't good. Even with operations.

I am at an all time low today. And I don't mind telling you that I feel like none of these medical practitioners give a flying fuck.
Which makes me feel like, well.... like shit.

I've got to go back next week to see this GP. To see if these antibiotics have worked. Then what?
Who knows.

Sorry to 'Depress Blog', but I really needed to vent....somewhere.

Duty Of Care?

I am totally fucking pissed off. I have been let down by the one person that I thought I could trust.

I have been suffering in pain for at least two years. TWO fucking years. And apparently, I never needed to.

Apparently my doctor sent referrals to Flinders Medical Centre ENT unit on a number of occasions, but today I find out that there is only the one. And that I am still only listed category 2(was told there are literally hundreds before me), because according to the referral, I am suffering from 'ear ache'. NOT anything more serious like, Oh, I don't know- Bilateral Mastoid disease(Mastoiditis).

I was told by the woman at Flinders, that each time I saw my GP for ear infections, he should have sent another referral, to indicate that the condition was deteriorating, so that my position on the waiting list could be elevated to level 1.

I have seen my GP at least twice a year, every year in the last three years, for ear infections. AT LEAST. And he hasn't done a fucking thing. Not one thing to help me in getting to see the specialists.

I am fucking ropeable. I have just rung the surgery and told the receptionist my findings, and that I would like for my doctor to send yesterday's CT scan results to Flinders.
I also told her how fucking upset I was, and how unnecessary all of this was.
If I lose my hearing due to this, do you think I can sue my doctor for lack of care?

All this time, I thought he was the greatest doctor out. Now, well now I don't know what I am supposed to think. And I am guessing that the same bullshit has happened with regards to me seeing a specialist for my chronic back problem.

After a shitty kinda week, with health issues and not feeling very flash, I am really looking forward to this weekend.

Magnaboy is an official once again, at the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally. And I get to go along and ~~get in the way~~, watch and help out, and take lots of cool close up photos.... like I did last year.

The above photo is of the Hawt Lamborghini Gallardo, for Supaloc Racing, which I took last year.

Hopefully I'll get some good vantage points, so I can take some nice pics again this year.

As I sit and wait for the End of the world, I thought to myself, "What better way to spend the last day alive than to share a blog post with my mates?!" :o)

Magnaboy was given the all clear the other week from the orthopaedic surgeon.
X-rays show that the fracture has healed quite nicely, which he said was good news, as most times in this situation, they don't heal very well.

He said there is no signs of arthritis, but that X-rays don't always show such things, and he couldn't rule out that he will suffer problems later on.

No further surgery is required. A huge relief for both of us.
There will be continuing pain and restrictions with his finger, but according to the surgeon, considering the severity of the injury, he is extremely lucky to still have his finger.

Both Mboy and I are really happy with the results. He sure has come a long way since This nasty episode.

His determination to return to work(in a job that has no "Light duties") and get mobile with his often painful injury, really is pretty remarkable. So much so, that Mboy has been nominated to receive an award!

Both his employer, and rehabilitation consultant have given him glowing references. It sure has made him feel very proud to be thought of that way.

Will keep you up to date if he hears anything. {fingers crossed. HA!} :o)

My ear infection continues. After two courses of antibiotics, it's gotten worse, not better.
Had to go back to the doctors on Thursday and it seems I have a "Super infection". Lucky me.
So I'm now on some real strong antibiotics. They look like something you'd give a horse!
I'm completely deaf in my right ear.
Go back to see my regular lovely Canadian doctor Monday. Here's hoping that it clears up by then. 'Cos fucked if I know what else they can do. *shrugs*

I am now running on a Mac mini!
My nephew kindly came down last Friday to transfer all my files etc from the dying iMac, to the new system, and voilé!
It's lovely knowing that my computer will not crash every time I want to do a software update!
And oh, it's so quiet! I ♥ my mac mini!!! :o)

Okay, well I'm off to get ready for tonight. We have my bro, Wolfie and my lovely sis-in-law-to-be, Louise coming.
If we're all gonna die today, what better way than spending it with those ya love? Hmmmm?

April 2009: That was when I was 1st put on to the waiting list to see the ENT specialist at Flinders Hospital. I was told it would be at least 18 months before I would see someone.

May 2011: I've yet to even hear from them, let alone see someone. And as of last night, I have yet another fucking ear infection. Joy.

So my doc has given me a über strong antibiotic to take, with a repeat prescription, and the chemist recommended that I take a bottle of Inner Health home with me, as these Antibiotics can really make you crook.

I'm so fucking sick of being sick. It seems every year now, at least once a year... I get an ear infection. Why????
I NEVER had ear problems as a kid or teen. I mean, wtf?
It is so debilitating.

In other news... Magnaboy sees the orthopaedic surgeon tomorrow in regards to his finger. For hopefully the last time.
It's a check up. He's got to have some X-Rays done, to see what is happening with the ligaments etc.
Last time he saw the surgeon, there was talk he may need another operation to release something or other, because he's having problems with it bending still. He, and our normal GP are reluctant for more surgery. So we'll see what happens.

Our Autumn has been more like Winter. Which is fine by me! I love it. Well, except for the catching of colds etc, obviously. :oS

I've been searching for him since forever.

When I joined Facebook he was the 1st person I typed into the search thingy.

I have searched for him for a long time. Once in a while, I'll type his name in there again, in the hope that his name would show up. It never did.

"Did you mean...... ?" Nothing was even close.

Two days ago I tried again. Nothing.

Tonight, I get a text from an old school mate, who is also on FB, and who knows how I felt...we all felt the same.
"OMG, you'll never guess who is on Farcebook!"
"WHO?!?!?! Tell meeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Omg, is it him?
"YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But be warned... he looks....erm, different."
"OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I went online as fast as I could. I typed in his name, waiting. Waiting for some miracle to show me his face.
Nothing.
Wtf?

*hurriedly type message to mate* Where the fuck is HE?! I can't find him!

She sends me a link to his profile.

It is safe to say that she was being kind in her warning. He doesn't look anything like he used to.
Nothing. At all.

I was shocked.

I was expecting the same gorgeous, blonde haired, blue eye'd spunk to be staring back at me from 23 years ago.
The fit and athletic/sporty boy who could run faster than any of us girls, which made it fun to try and catch him and kiss him.

I don't know what I thought I'd find.... I mean, I sure as shit don't look anything like I did when I was 13.

My friend and I messaged one another back and forth. "Go on... add him!"
"No, YOU add him!"
"He probably wouldn't even remember me."
"Of course he will...how can he forget you!?"

My friend filled me in on the fact that our 'school girl crush', is now in a relationship with a girl we both knew from school. They have a little boy.
It just blows me away.

We are all grown up. Some of us are married. Some of us have kids. Some of us are divorced, and re-married. Some are even grandparents. Fuck....
But somewhere along the line, I forgot I'd grown up, too.
I keep on visualizing everyone as they were.... why do I do that?

So, for all these years... after wanting to reconnect with my old primary school crush, it's been somewhat of an anti climax. *sigh*
